Watch this video to get a quick glimpse of how Edmodo is turning the classroom into a community. Here is an example of a helpful letter you can give to parents.
Brief Description
Edmodo is an educational Web 2.0 tool that provides teachers and students a safe and secure place to connect and collaborate, share content and educational applications, access homework, grades, class discussions and notifications in real time. Edmodo's goal is to help educators harness the power of social media to customize the classroom for each and every learner.
What do teachers need to know?
Edmodo does not require student email addresses and only the teachers who have the group code can see the students. The teacher must first register (for free). Then they can create a group or groups for their classes. Students will then register and use the teachers code to join that class. Students do not need email addresses to use Edmodo. Teachers can connect with other teachers at their school, or invite teachers from other schools around the world.
Professional Learning Communities
Edmodo Communities allow teachers to instantly connect with a global network of educators so they can collaborate, share lessons, resources, and more!

Wondering which rules you should establish with your students before using Edmodo in the classroom? Edmodo has you covered. Here is a poster you may download and display in your classroom that explains the ground rules for using Edmodo. If you would like a K-5 example, here's a poster for you!
What do parents need to know?
Parent Accounts will help keep parents informed of classroom activities, assignments, grades, and school events. Parents will need their own unique parent code in order to create an account. This is a security measure to ensure that parents can view only their child's school activities. Parents can retrieve their parent code from their child's Edmodo account. The code will be located on the right hand side, below the notifications section.
Here is a brief video that provides parents a brief overview of Parent Accounts and demonstrates how they can retrieve their parent codes.
